About Me

I’ve worked in the media world since July 2005, starting out as a print journalist; then serving as editor-in-chief of four acclaimed newspapers; freelance writing and editing SEO articles for About.com, eHow and Livestrong; and directing content for the nationally syndicated, Daytime Emmy nominated TV show, “Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford.” (That role also featured five years of daily client work for corporate partners including The Home Depot, GE, Panasonic, and many more, and even ghostwriting long-form home improvement articles for Yelp, a brand partner.)

Multi-tasking is a must in the fast-paced world of digital media — so is wearing many hats. You might be surprised how few people produce digital content, whether it’s for local newsrooms or major television shows. To survive in these industries (especially as long as I have), talent, time, and dedication are crucial qualities.

But survival isn’t the goal for true content creators: we seek to thrive.

I’ve mostly worked behind the camera, but have never shied away from on-camera appearances, whether leading video podcasts during my local news days, or sharing a brand’s values, like in this 2021 video taping for 3 Echoes Content Studios.

Successful content creators have to wear many hats — but not this kind! (Although I cherish this ball cap commemorating the final season of “Today’s Homeowner.”)

Jack-of-all-Trades, Master of All

After 18 years in the business, I’ve learned (and perfected) a lot of skills. I can lead teams; collaborate with executives, corporate partners and team members on marketing objectives; optimize content for search engines; review analytics and make data-based decisions; write ad copy, content, and press releases; lay out print pages; design graphics; edit video and create compelling social media.

Jack-of-all-trades? Perhaps. But definitely no master of none. My record and portfolio speak for themselves.

Some videos I’ve optimized and edited have received millions of views; I’ve taken one Facebook page from hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors to 4 million; I’ve led news teams that strategically raised monthly webpage views 1,700%.

Why You Need to Hire a Pro

Optimization is important, but content is king. Quality content requires careful research and authoritative copy. Consistent branding with clear visual cues and calls to action. Graphic design that leads the eye. Video that doesn’t just inform, but also inspires.

Most of all, it takes time. Artificial intelligence is prone to errors. (In fact, it delivered quite a few incorrect answers for me while creating this website. I ran into coding issues and sought help, but didn’t get useful solutions until the fifth or sixth try for a number of problems. Sidebar: I don’t provide web design services, because that’s not one of my specialties or passions. But it was a skillset I wanted to learn — and working in WordPress is fun.)

The moral of the story? A.I. is not advocating for your needs; it’s pulling information it cobbles together from the internet based on prompts. For excellent, consistent digital content production (that won’t sound stilted, at best, or be potentially plagiarized, at worst), you need to hire a pro who knows your brand, your needs, and your audience.
